Traditionally, a group of friends would gather in the town square or by the sea to sing together without any instruments. Today, you might occasionally hear a quiet guitar or mandolin in the background, but the focus is always on the harmony of the voices.

These songs usually cover themes like the sea, the homeland, and unrequited love. Because it is such a huge part of Croatian culture, UNESCO even recognized klapa as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity!

Why use klapa to learn Croatian?

How to practice Croatian with klapa
